What I do on a daily basis is not work. It's fun it's challenging. It's rewarding. But not work. I am a licensed cosmetologist taking care of clients' hair needs morning noon and, sometimes nights. But what happens during that 1-2 hour appointment time is special. Here's why:
1. Magic
Literally. If you could become someone totally different in a few short hours, how much would you pay? $50? $100? $200? What does it take to make that change from old you to new you? New color? New cut? Let’s do it. Not only do I have the power to transform someone’s way of being, but also the perception of others about them. Which is more important? After all, who we are is how others define us as. Including our fashion choices, what we say, and the hair we wear. Whether you like it or not.
To start a consultation, I often ask “What do you want your hair to say about you?” or “Who do you want to be?” Many clients choose to maintain their current look, while others are ready for a change. Whether it be to prepare for an upcoming job interview, or to look smashing for a party, the hair you wear will determine your future. So make it magical.
Caught her twirling. Such a great moment!
2. Creativity.
Are you in a position where you create new and exciting content? Or perhaps you are a manager and your job is part of inspiring young professionals and shaping their destiny. I feel like I’m a part of Ellie’s dream. Her passion and creativity inspires me back. How can you inspire others? How can you find ways to be creative, even if “creativity” isn’t on the top of your job duties?
At Belli Belli Salon, it’s apparent that creativity is free flowing. Between hair painting, sculpting precision cuts, and designing high fashion braids, it’s hard to determine where it ends and begins. I love to inspire clients to follow their dreams, even if it means losing a great client to another city. They inspire me to do the same. Hence this blog.
3. Freedom.
Having a respected level of autonomy is of vital importance to allow creativity and magic to occur. Not may people enjoy a micromanager hovering above their every move; it’s also highly inefficient. How many emails do you get from your boss? Do they ever accomplish anything? Stylists in my world seem to float through the air as they walk through the hair salon. Magic.
Are you in a position to make or influence decisions? Why not? Is that good or bad? We all influence on each other, from clients to colleagues. From our fashion choices, how we speak, and even eating habits, we can change the world around us, one person at a time. So exercise your freedom to influence others, and make sure you always do it in a positive way.
Clients continually show me the magic of the world, because they have lived their lives in a magical way. They are beautiful. They love free. They live happy. They live positively. Let’s work together to encourage others to make a positive change on the world. And remember to Start Small.Â
