Transforming Your Hair Color

When you’re feeling red, go red. When you’re feeling blonde, go for it. Just don’t do both within the same year. Taking time between color transitions will leave your hair in better condition between each color process, while giving you time to repair and nourish it in between appointments.

As far as what to change to, many people know what color pallets looks best on them. Soft pinks? Vibrant oranges? Forest Green? After looking at your eye color, use the color wheel to find complimentary colors to your style and personality. And then stick with it.

If you like to change, you MUST take really great care of your lovely locks. Start. With a really reparitive and nourishing conditioning mask.  This one is my favorite from Kerastase.

When deciding to switch it up, make sure you ask your stylist about damage, at home care, and a realistic time line to go from Red to Blonde. Anything is possible, but enjoying the process of can be a beautiful journey!

Grey Blonde is the New Blonde

Summer is coming up, which means you might be thinking about going lighter! It’s such an exciting and special moment. Keep in mind that bleaching your hair might change the way your virgin, healthy locks  feel. So be sure to talk to your stylist about at home care products to keep your locks feeling smooth and looking shiny. I always love and recommend Moroccan Oil Treatment. This power serum is a great foundation for blowdrys and under any hot tools for added heat protection!

Washing your hair less will also help fighting off dryness during the summer months. Think moisture. Always rock your blonde to the max and don’t be afraid to play with toners. You should know what a toner is by now!! If not, grill your stylist for information! You only want the best. I have so many blondes asking for this beautiful ash / grey / beige color right now. It’s so beautiful and looks great with a root.

  • Here’s one of my favorites. Enjoy the process!

If you speak hairdresser, here’s my secret formula:

Natural level 7.

Lightener 20 volume.

Shades EQ: 9T=9V & processing solution.

(Sometimes we add a splash of 9B or 9RB)

On root for 5 min, pull through for last 2. Let it turn grey! It’s scary at first, but that full deposit makes it last! 😉

Why are we alive? What is our purpose? Simply put, our purpose is to live.

As conscious beings, humans live the life we choose, so choose wisely. We can choose to be successful and happy, or choose to live on the streets, depressed and lonely. We can choose to have a job, choose to travel the world, choose to get fat, or choose to eat an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. We can choose to have close friends, or choose to work 3 part time jobs to support your family. We can choose our path in education, choose to max our credit cards on holiday shopping sprees, or choose to learn a new language. Every decision we make is a choice, whether we know it or not, that affects our lives in some way. Our choices are microcosms that make up the sum of who we are, and help define our purpose.

Helping others should always be at the top of your life goals. How can we help others? The biggest ways are to donate time and money. By volunteering at the local dog shelter or community theatre, you can make a HUGE impact on others. I have recently donated my time and musical skills to the Coronado Playhouse in their upcoming production of Avenue Q. This community theatre is dedicated to producing high quality performances, paring young artists with experts of acting, as well as pairing with another non profit in the community to spread their efforts.

The story line is told through master puppetry, an art form uncommon in todays technological age, in a Sesame Street after-school-special fashion, and focuses on young Princeton trying to find his purpose. Through falling in love, making mistakes, and learning that the internet was made for porn, (as sung by a cookie monster based character), we get to know all the characters on Avenue Q and learn about everyones purpose.

We learn the while we might have our eye on the one in the spot light, there might come a more seductive alternative. Making mistakes along the way is part of all our journeys. The moment you turn your mistakes into lessons, then you’re on your way to enlightenment. There are no wrong answers, there are no wrong notes, there are not wrong choices. There is life, purpose, lessons, and love. Following your heart isn’t always easy, but just knowing that there is no “right” answer can help us navigate the journey of finding our purpose.

The theatre does a fantastic job of promoting itself around the community. With articles featured in the paper at San Diego State University, the local “Whats Happening For the Gays” magazine Rageand partnering with the SD Humane Society and Paws of Coronado, the people involved truly care about the community. And that, I suppose, is my purpose. To care. To help others. And of course, to spread the gift of music.

My Front Yard

Do you feel a sense of life happening around you in your community? Do you walk often, or ride your bike, just because its so great to do that? Have you ever noticed something you’ve never seen before, while walking around your neighborhood? Each morning in Pacific Beach, California, feels just like that. This magical place seems to attract new and interesting people, objects, and experiences on a daily basis. I think its caused by the super saturation of sun and perfect weather. Either way, it enhances my life to live in a place that is so…alive.

3 Reason to Work in a Magic Place

What I do on a daily basis is not work. It's fun it's challenging. It's rewarding. But not work. I am a licensed cosmetologist taking care of clients' hair needs morning noon and, sometimes nights. But what happens during that 1-2 hour appointment time is special. Here's why:

1. Magic

Literally. If you could become someone totally different in a few short hours, how much would you pay? $50? $100? $200? What does it take to make that change from old you to new you? New color? New cut? Let’s do it. Not only do I have the power to transform someone’s way of being, but also the perception of others about them. Which is more important? After all, who we are is how others define us as. Including our fashion choices, what we say, and the hair we wear. Whether you like it or not.

To start a consultation, I often ask “What do you want your hair to say about you?” or “Who do you want to be?” Many clients choose to maintain their current look, while others are ready for a change. Whether it be to prepare for an upcoming job interview, or to look smashing for a party, the hair you wear will determine your future. So make it magical.

2. Creativity.

Are you in a position where you create new and exciting content? Or perhaps you are a manager and your job is part of inspiring young professionals and shaping their destiny. I feel like I’m a part of Ellie’s dream. Her passion and creativity inspires me back. How can you inspire others? How can you find ways to be creative, even if “creativity” isn’t on the top of your job duties?

At Belli Belli Salon, it’s apparent that creativity is free flowing. Between hair painting, sculpting precision cuts, and designing high fashion braids, it’s hard to determine where it ends and begins. I love to inspire clients to follow their dreams, even if it means losing a great client to another city. They inspire me to do the same. Hence this blog.

3. Freedom.

Having a respected level of autonomy is of vital importance to allow creativity and magic to occur. Not may people enjoy a micromanager hovering above their every move; it’s also highly inefficient. How many emails do you get from your boss? Do they ever accomplish anything? Stylists in my world seem to float through the air as they walk through the hair salon. Magic.

Are you in a position to make or influence decisions? Why not? Is that good or bad? We all influence on each other, from clients to colleagues. From our fashion choices, how we speak, and even eating habits, we can change the world around us, one person at a time. So exercise your freedom to influence others, and make sure you always do it in a positive way.

Clients continually show me the magic of the world, because they have lived their lives in a magical way. They are beautiful. They love free. They live happy. They live positively. Let’s work together to encourage others to make a positive change on the world. And remember to Start Small.
